Volunteer Roles & Descriptions

  • Meet Set Up (4 per meet) Arrives one-hour prior to meet start; set up scoring table, set up team tents, put in lane lines, set up Colorado scoreboard & touch pads, and other tasks necessary before the meet can start.
  • Announcer (1 per meet) Sit at the scoring table on the pool deck to announce the events and names of swimmers in each heat as well as making other public announcements as needed throughout the meet.
  • Awards (2 per meet) Receive labels from the scoring table and attaches them to the appropriate ribbons. Sort ribbons between the two teams. Give other team their ribbons before they leave the facility. Give ACE ribbons to an ACE coach.
  • Colorado Operator (1 per meet) This is a trained position. Arrive one-hour prior to meet start to set up and test equipment. Manage and operate the Colorado Timing System and scoreboard.
  • Meet Manager Operator (1 per meet) This is a trained position. Arrive one-hour prior to meet start to set up the team line ups for the meet. Operate meet manager computer and software throughout the meet. Confer with home and visiting coaches concerning meet changes. Ensure accuracy of time transfers into meet software. Confer with head official on meet discrepancies. Print ribbon labels. Email results to the league and team coaches.
  • Meet Manager Assistant (1 per meet) This is a trained position. Assist the Meet Manager Operator. Help organize the paperwork and keep track of the pace of the meet. This is a good training position for someone interested in becoming a primary Meet Manager Operator.
  • Finish Judge (2 per meet) Stand on pool deck at the finish end of each race. Watch swimmers finish and confer with opposing team’s finish judge on place finishes.
  • Timers & Back Up Timer (7-14 per meet) Stand at the finish end of each race and use a stopwatch to time the swimmer in your lane. Timers sign up for the first half or the second half of the meet. Each lane has 2 timers, one from each team. A back-up timer keeps time and can handover a stopwatch in the event that a lane timer’s watch malfunctions.
  • Runner (2 per home meet) Walk along and collects time sheets from timers and finish judge slips following each event. Take paperwork to the scoring table operator and assistant.
  • Stroke & Turn Official (4 per meet) This is a trained position. Observe on deck and walk along pool to watch swimmers, checking for legal strokes and turns. Communicate with meet officials regarding disqualifications. We are looking for 3-4 parents to come forward with a willingness to learn this job prior to the season.   • Swimmer Line-Up (3-4 per meet) Supervise, gather, and organize 8 & U, 10 & U, and 12 & U swimmers for their heats by getting them lined up for their events.
  • Home Meet Staging Volunteer (2 per meet) Manage and oversee staging area, including pace of staging. Organize swimmers into lanes and heats in the staging area. Assist the heats of swimmers in progressing through the staging area and onto the deck for races. (This job predominantly occurs at championship meets.)
  • Food Stand (8 - 10 per meet) Arrive one-hour prior to meet start. Help to set up and tear down food stand. Assist with the sales and distributions of food, drinks and snacks at home meets.
  • Meet Clean Up (6 per meet) Clean up immediately following a home meet. Help with jobs including moving tables and chairs, removing signs, putting away lane lines, putting away scoreboard and touchpads, picking up trash, other tasks necessary to tear down the meet.
